One of the Bears' draft picks from the 2025 class made a long-awaited appearance at Bears practice on Wednesday afternoon.

Fifth-round draft pick Zah Frazier was spotted at practice, according to reporters on site at Halas Hall. The 6-foot-3, 186-pound cornerback has missed all of training camp up to this point because of "personal reasons."

The Chicago Tribune's Brad Biggs had this observation of Frazier from Wednesday's practice.

"He was getting off a golf cart outside the weight room, an indication he probably was doing some type of workout on other fields or inside the Walter Payton Center. It’s potentially a sign that Frazier will be involved in football activities before too long."

The impact of Frazier returning to Chicago at the right time

Frazier attended UTSA for his last three years of college and only started in his final season. Even though he will turn 25 in October, he doesn't have much starting experience -- which makes it even more disappointing that he wasn't able to take advantage of the practice time, joint practices and preseason games throughout the summer.

The Bears have also had several injuries to the cornerback position and most recently lost second-year player Terell Smith with a torn patellar tendon in the Week 2 preseason game against the Buffalo Bills. Jaylon Johnson hasn't participated in training camp because of a lower-body injury, and Kyler Gordon has also missed time.

Frazier would have had plenty of opportunities to work on his craft if he were available. Now, his status to make the 53-man roster is in question. One thing working in Frazier's favor is that Ben Johnson's staff selected him, so the current regime would likely want to see their investment on the football field before giving up on the rookie.

The practice squad could be a realistic option for the Bears' cornerback. Final roster cuts are due by Tuesday.
