When the Chicago Bears drafted Kiran Amegadjie with the 75th overall pick in the third round, it was a life-changing moment for the offensive tackle who grew up in Hinsdale, Ill.
The Yale product was at his draft party, and Amegadjie was asked about playing with quarterback Caleb Williams in an interview with Fox32.
“He won't get touched. I promise you that," he said.

There was nothing wrong with what Amegadjie said during that moment, but he has failed to live up to those words. He has played in just six games since 2024 – the year that Williams was the most sacked quarterback in the NFL (68). He hasn't played a regular-season game since the Week 15 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings. He was flagged four times in the Monday Night loss, and he also gave up a sack that resulted in Williams fumbling.
Last season, the Bears drafted Ozzy Trapilo in the second round, moving Amegadjie down the Bears’ depth chart. The former third-round pick even got a look at guard during practice, but he never saw the field in 2025. Anytime a player begins switching positions on a new coaching staff, it's never a good sign.
The Bears have not named a starting left tackle at this point, and Amegadjie was in the competition for the job. That has changed since Braxton Jones and Trapilo have returned from injury, and Theo Benedet continues to prove his worth as a serviceable option who could play both tackle positions.
Amegadjie has been given plenty of opportunities and hasn't maximized them. When he's played in training camp practices and preseason games, he’s done nothing to prove he belongs on this Bears team.
Making an NFL 53-man roster must be earned, never given. Poles can't simply keep Amegadjie because he was a third-round pick and plays a position of need for the Bears.
His play and unavailability are red flags that would make other players expandable. That same mentality must apply here. This isn't about calling for people's jobs. It's simply asking for fairness.

Head coach Ben Johnson has high aspirations for the Bears’ organization. The only way this team can get there is if all the players carry their weight. Amegadjie hasn't done that up to this point, making him a prime cut candidate this Sunday at 5 p.m. CT when NFL rosters must be trimmed down to 53 players.
