As teams are releasing their first unofficial depth charts ahead of preseason openers, fans are all about jumping to conclusions. Quite frankly, there are few surprising or bold conclusions you can come to after seeing the Chicago Bears' initial depth chart.
But, one overwhelming takeaway is one that we have been predicting for a while now. Third-year wide receiver Tyler Scott has needed every bit of hope he can get over the last year, but time is now officially running out for the former fourth-round pick.
When glancing at the first edition of Chicago's depth chart before preseason gets underway, you'll notice six wide receivers ahead of Scott: DJ Moore, Rome Odunze, Olamide Zaccheaus, Devin Duvernay, Luther Burden and Miles Boykin.
Tyler Scott's time in with the Bears is officially winding down
Again, we have talked about this for a while now. Scott was put on notice last offseason when the Bears traded for Keenan Allen and then drafted Odunze.
The former Cincinnati Bearcat came to the Bears as a fourth-round selection in 2023 and was one of the go-to targets for Desmond Ridder at one point. That Cincinnati team actually made some serious noise not too long ago, and both Scott and fellow NFL peer, Alec Pierce, were a big part of it.
Scott's speed was intriguing, coming out of college, and he looked like he might be able to translate to a strong WR3 option at the very least. Unfortunately, Scott has not received many opportunities to show his skill set.
In the limited snaps, whether it be on offense or special teams, Scott has yet to make the most of them. Now, one could argue that quarterback play was certainly not on his side during his first two years. Offensive line has not been a strength, nor has scheme and coaching. It's all kind of floundered since Scott became a pro.

Now under a new head coach in Ben Johnson, and having seen other veterans and rookies come in under this regime, Scott might just be better served finding a fresh start elsewhere. For his sake, we're hoping that happens and that he is able to take full advantage.
