The Chicago Bears are another closer to their Monday night battle against the Minnesota Vikings, but not much is changing on the injury front, which is a massive concern.
On Friday, the Bears returned to the practice field with the team sharing the latest injury report. The good news is that defensive back Josh Blackwell was limited in practice after having a DNP status this week. Fans will not love reading that not much else changed, as everyone else's statuses are the same.
Name, Position | Injury | Friday Practice Status |
---|---|---|
T.J. Edwards, LB | Hamstring | DNP |
Roschon Johnson, RB | Foot | DNP |
Josh Blackwell, DB | Groin | Limited |
Jaylon Johnson, CB | Calf/Groin | Limited |
Kyle Monangai, RB | Hamstring | Limited |
Devin Duvernay, WR | Hamstring | Full |
Dominique Robinson, DL | Oblique | Full |
The media was able to come to practice today for a short time to monitor what was happening on the field. ESPN Bears reporter Courtney Cronin detailed Jaylon Johnson's update and how his status looked after having been limited in practice all week.
"FWIW, Jaylon Johnson was towards the back of the line as DBs went through individual drills during the portion open to the media. Likely signals him still in ramp up phase/not having his conditioning where he needs it to be. Johnson said he feels he needs to make it through a week of practice with pads on to see how his body responds before knowing whether he can play vs. Minnesota. With another injury added this week (calf in addition to groin), it feels like that'll be a steep climb. Bears have one more practice on Saturday before hosting the Vikings on MNF."

Cronin also added an observation about the running backs with three of them on the field on Friday: D'Andre Swift, Kyle Monangai, and Brittian Brown. Roschon Johnson has not practiced over the last few weeks and is in jeopardy of not playing on Monday. Cronin believes that the Bears could call up Brown from the practice squad to fill in as the third back for the Vikings match.
Bears' injury report is telling the whole story about injuries
Much has been discussed about both Johnson's injuries, but linebacker T.J. Edwards' injury can't be ignored, either. Edwards has been a staple of this defense over the past couple of years, serving as one of the leading tacklers.
The depth of the linebackers has been a concern throughout the summer. Chicago was lucky to see the emergence of rookie Ruben Hyppolite II and Noah Sewell, who both had great preseasons with the Bears.
Fans are going to be asking which one will end up starting alongside Tremaine Edmunds if Edwards can't go. Many are bracing for the idea that Edwards will not be playing against the Vikings.

Monday's game will certainly get tougher with the latest injury update, and the Bears' depth on offense and defense will be tested early in the season.
