Bears insider reveals a top offensive line coaching candidate for Ben Johnson

By all accounts, this would be a strong hire.

Since becoming the new head coach of the Chicago Bears, Ben Johnson has been busy assembling his staff. So far, he's put together an impressive group which includes several former players; a trend the Bears are happily jumping on.

Hiring coordinators Dennis Allen and Declan Doyle, the Bears have a nice mix of experience and youth on the defensive and offensive sides of the ball.

Specifically on the offensive side, Johnson has put together a tremendous group thus far. He was able to bring J.T. Barrett with him from Detroit to become the Bears' quarterbacks coach. Additionally, Johnson snagged Antwaan Randle El to come to Chicago and be his wide receivers coach and assistant head coach.

One of the bigger voids still left, though, is the offensive line coach. This is the clear weak spot on the roster and, along with going out and getting the right talent on the field, the Bears also need a coach who can help flip the script.

A name to keep an eye on for this position, according to The Chicago Tribune's Brad Biggs, is longtime New Orleans Saints position coach, Dan Roushar.

The Bears would be getting an experienced and proven offensive line coach in Dan Roushar

At the moment, Roushar is the offensive line coach over at Tulane University. But, he spent 10 years with the New Orleans Saints coaching their offensive line, tight ends and also at one point acting as their run game coordinator.

Hiring Roushar would be right on par for Johnson and the theme he's gone with, thus far. Johnson has brought on multiple coaches with ties to Sean Payton as well as his former staff in Detroit.

More Bears news:

Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell spent four years as the Saints' tight ends coach (and assistant head coach) from 2016-2020, which just so happened to be the four years Roushar was the team's offensive line coach.

During those years, the Saints had some great offensive lines protecting Drew Brees.

The idea of bringing in yet another coach with ties to both Payton and Campbell is music to Bears fans' ears. The staff is being filled out with a wide variety of talented coaches, but the continued trend of finding names who have come from similar trees is a huge positive.

It's clear the type of identity Johnson wants to establish with the staff he's putting together so far. Things are changing in Chicago, and if Roushar ends up being the next positional hire, the positive trend will only continue.
