Bears insider squashes popular fan theory ahead of training camp

There goes that dream.

Here's the thing about the Bears: they're back. And when they're not back (very rare), they're only one player away from being back. That's the fun cycle that exists every July in Chicago, like clockwork.

So the only real question heading into Bears' training camp next week is this: are the Bears back (yes, duh) or are the Bears just one player away from being back? Is there one star pass rusher or running back that could happen to be scooped up off another team's waivers? Surely the Bengals have one more moment of organizational malpractice in them before Week 1 arrives.

The answer? The Bears seem to be back. (Obviously.) According to longtime team insider and Chicago Tribune writer Brad Biggs, there probably isn't a big move on the horizon. No pass-rush trade, no sneaky good running back signing, nothing. That's how back the Bears already are.

It sure doesn't sound like there's a huge last second move for the Bears in store

"I think right now, what you see is what you get," Biggs said. "First of all, they don't have a ton of cap space. So if you're saying, 'well, we're going to go out and get a pass rusher,' well, you're buying a guy that is not a top-rate edge defender. A guy that might have some name power, but isn't necessarily going to make a big impact on your pass rush. In terms of running back, let's see what they've got here. The coach doesn't need to learn anything about D'Andre Swift. He already knows it, right? Then you've got Roschon Johnson and you've got Kyle Monangai. Let's see what they have with those guys. And if they have a need after they look at those guys more closely, you can go out and you can find that guy. You can get that guy. But there's not a difference-making running back on the market right now. Are they going to have adequate depth at safety? Well, if they need to add to that, you can find that guy. But I think the roster, by in large, is what you see is what you're working with ... I don't expect anything that would be too significant right now."

Fine. So be it. I guess the Bears have to do it without Trey Hendrickson and Travis Etienne Jr. That's all right. But it sounds like maybe the Bears are looking at another safety? Biggs is as plugged in as anyone on the Bears' beat, and this could all just be radio speculation, but it's at least kinda notable that he brought up safety on his own.

So, to answer your question: no, the Bears aren't pulling off a big trade in the coming weeks. Or that's what they want you to think, at least. (It sure sounds like what a team that is making a big trade would say.) But it's fine, because the Bears are back.
