The Chicago Bears want Braxton Jones to know that he is not assured of being the team's starting left tackle for the 2025 season.

With the No. 56 selection in the 2025 NFL Draft, the Bears returned their focus to the offensive line, selecting Boston College offensive tackle Ozzy Trapilo.

In a shocking turn of events, the Bears have gone offense with their first three selections in the draft. After adding skill position players in Colston Loveland and Luther Burden, the Bears addressed the trenches with the selection of Trapilo at No. 56.

It goes without saying that Jones' days as the Bears' starting left tackle may be numbered. That isn't a shocking development, as Jones has appeared to be on borrowed time as the offseason has progressed. After spending the early weeks of the offseason upgrading their interior offensive line with the additions of Joe Thuney, Drew Dalman, and Jonah Jackson, left tackle remained one of the biggest questions the Bears had on their roster moving forward.

Jones is recovering from an ankle injury that ended his 2024 season prematurely, and the latest update was that he may not be ready for the start of training camp in July. That will only give Trapilo more of an advantage in a theoretical positional battle.

If Trapilo does open the season as the Bears' starting left tackle, that gives the team a chance of having stability with their starting offensive line for the first time in recent memory. The Bears are expected to engage Thuney in contract extension talks before the start of the season.

The selection of Trapilo also does not signal encouraging things for Kiran Amegadjie. Amegadjie was a third-round pick of the Bears last season, and there was a thought that he could be the team's left tackle in waiting. Those plans seem to have changed.
