Bears just got a Khalil Mack-sized opportunity dropped in their laps

Well, this is interesting.

A few years back, the Chicago Bears made one of the biggest moves of the offseason when they went out and acquired star pass rusher Khalil Mack. As it turns out, the makings of a similar move could be in the works thanks to some drama over in Dallas.

Cowboys pass rusher Micah Parsons still doesn't have a new deal and, per a report from The Athletic's Dianna Russini, the relationship "has deteriorated to a point" where Parsons might just resort to drastic measures such as a trade request out of Dallas.

It's the second week of training camp. The Cowboys have made a recent extension when they reached a deal with starting tight end Jake Ferguson, but Parsons continues to be the man left on the back burner.

This is where Ryan Poles needs to make his move.

All offseason, fans have waited for this team to make a big move at the defensive end position. Instead, the Bears signed free agent Dayo Odeyingbo and called it good. They are relying on both he and Montez Sweat to do the heavy lifting, but this now gives Chicago an intriguing possibility.

Parsons wouldn't come cheap. But, having just turned 26 years old and in his prime, he'd be well-worth the price.

In all likelihood, the Bears would have to give up a first-round pick, a second-round pick and maybe additional picks from there. Plus, they'd have to pay him top dollar on an extension.

Just picture a defensive line with Sweat and Parsons, though. Would the Bears be able to include Odeyingbo in a deal? It could help, financially, if Poles was able to swing that. I'm no cap expert, but extending Parsons and keeping the contracts of Sweat and Odeyingbo might be too tall of a task.

Parsons has totaled 52.5 sacks in four years with the Cowboys, each season seeing him enter double digits. In Chicago, he'd be the final piece of the puzzle for a Ben Johnson-led team that's already got Super Bowl aspirations.
