Bears likely to move on from Matt Eberflus according to NFL Insider's latest report

There are really only two reasons to keep watching the Bears this season. The first? Caleb Williams. Coming off a rough month of football, Williams recaptured Bears fans' faith in last Sunday's loss to the Packers, driving the offense down the field for what – at the time – looked like an easy game-winning field goal.

The other? Watching to see how many different moments Matt Eberflus can use to get himself officially fired. He had a big day in that regards last week, leaving 30 seconds, two downs, and a timeout on the table in favor for a field goal attempt from the wrong hash. It was, in its own, kinda sad way, peak Matt Eberflus.

It was also a wonderful example of why he's probably getting fired the day after the Bears' season ends. We haven't seen the type of sure reporting on it the way that we've seen in Jacksonville or Dallas, but when Vegas has you as the odds-on favorite to be the next coach to lose your job, someone knows something. NFL Insiders are already hinting at it, too. For example, during his weekly radio hit with Chicago's 670 The Score, Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio speculated that Eberflus was as good as gone.

Mike Florio suggests that the Bears are probably moving on from Matt Eberflus this offseason

"We saw eight [changes] last year, 25% of the league," Florio said. "I think six, seven, eight. It's possible. Depends how the rest of the season goes ... By the time it's all said and done, I think we could see a change in Chicago. We're going to see a change in Dallas, because there's no buyout that Jerry Jones would have to finance. We've already mentioned the Jaguars. There are other hotspots that could go one way or the other."

So, ultimately, not that crazy of a report. Maybe it's telling that he started his list with Chicago, but also he is talking to a Chicago radio station, so that's probably just playing the hits to the hometown crowd. But still – on a list that included Mike McCarthy and Doug Peterson, Matt Eberflus got listed before either of them. Not great! (Or very great, depending on where you stand on the issue. And tbh I bet I know where you stand on the issue.)
