Not many Chicago Bears fans would have expected running back D'Andre Swift to be a part of the future plans of the franchise, but the team has made its feelings known about him.
ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that the Bears and Swift have agreed on a contract extension. The agreement is for three years and $33.75 million, including $27.5 million guaranteed. He was entering the final year of his contract.
Swift is coming off the best season of his NFL career, rushing for 1,087 yards and nine touchdowns. This came after a career-low season in his first year with the Bears in 2024, when he averaged under four yards per carry for the first time.
Bears wanted D'Andre Swift back and they got it done
At the start of the offseason, despite his strong season, much chatter focused on Swift's future with the team because he was in the final year of his deal. Many thought the Bears would draft a younger back in 2026 or 2027 to team up with Kyle Monangai.
That did not turn out to be the case apparently. The Bears want to keep Swift and Monangai together, which Bears fans won't complain about.
Swift and Monangai made for a great pairing between the two backs. They combined for over 1,700 yards and 14 touchdowns last year. Many have considered them to be a top five duo in the NFL.
It appears now that the two will at least be together for the next three years. Monangai played well as a seventh round rookie last year, but there will be a point in the next year or two that his contract will have to be addressed as well.
Regardless, this is a big deal for the Bears to have Swift and Monangai under contract for a long time. These two backs work so well together. Swift is more of the speed back, while Monangai will lower the shoulder to gain more yards through power.
This will help Caleb Williams and the passing game even more. Having an established running game will make it easier to run the football.

Chicago made a great move, as they got Swift locked in just a few days before the Carolina Panthers Week 1 showdown. The future has never looked brighter in Chicago than it does now.
