The Chicago Bears have cast a wide net in their head coaching search, with the list of interview candidates up to 13 and counting.
After Ryan Poles meets with reporters on Tuesday, it seems that the Bears' general manager will begin the interview process on Wednesday as the team is scheduled to interview former Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel.
Vrabel had a 54-45 record with the Titans, and two playoff wins despite never having anything close to a franchise quarterback on his roster. The situation in Tennessee started to turn against him, and while he was fired, it could easily be argued that he was just as happy to part ways due to a difference in opinion with the team's incoming general manager.
Vrabel took a year away from coaching but worked with Cleveland Brown as an assistant. Now that he is back in the mix as a potential head coach, he is being viewed as one of the best options.
First, many were surprised that he was let go by the Titans in the first place. Beyond that, he has a resume of strong coaching moments, whether it be game strategy or relating to players.
Vrabel leans to the defensive side of the football, but he has hired two offensive coordinators who went on to be head coaches with Matt LaFleur and Arthur Smith. This shows that even though his mentality can be against what many Bears fans want, he is still qualified to be the top candidate.
The Bears front office has said that they want to hire a leader of men and it would be hard to find someone who would earn locker room respect more than former linebacker Mike Vrabel. It is no surprise that the Bears will interview him and fans should be excited about the idea of him being one of the most notable candidates.
