The Chicago Bears are undoubtedly going to come away with a running back during the 2025 NFL Draft, especially after hiring new head coach Ben Johnson.

The offensive mentality for Johnson is to never have enough playmakers, and right now, the Bears simply do not have enough of those in the back field.

For a while, Ohio State running back TreVeyon Henderson was one of the top prospects at his position. Recent years have seen his stock dip just a bit, whether it be due to injuries or the emergence of his counterpart, Quinshon Judkins. But, Henderson is still considered a premier name in a deep class.

Ohio State RB TreVeyon Henderson 2025 NFL Draft Scouting Report

Notes

  • Height: 5-10
  • Weight: 202
  • 5-star High School recruit (no. 1 nationally)
  • 3-Time All-Big Ten (First, Second, Third, one appearance each)

Positives

  • Quick-footed leading to deadly lateral jukes, precise cuts; Rapid acceleration to a speed making him difficult to run down
  • Sure-handed receiving threat who can bail quarterbacks out in tough situations on third down (77 career receptions, 11.1 yds/rec)
  • Ball security (no fumbles in three years)
  • High character young man who is a natural leader, well-respected and excellent teammate

For fans who want a running back that can break a big one at any point, Henderson will aim to please. When he sees a hole, he hits it and, then, can be gone in an instant. He's a big play waiting to happen. Henderson will also be there for his quarterback in a pinch, being willing to get open and make a play in the receiving game when things break down.

A willing blocker who will pass protect like that of a lineman, Henderson uses his bigger frame to get low and won't shy away from taking on a pass rusher.

Negatives

  • Plays extremely fast, albeit with one speed which can sometimes cause him to run into trouble without first identifying the right gap
  • Not always one to break tackles, often gets contact at line of scrimmage
  • Injuries are a concern

Not to completely draw a comparison to D'Andre Swift, but Henderson has had a tendency to absorb more contact than needed. He doesn't always break the tackle when it seems like he will, which is odd when you consider the fact Henderson can pass block pretty well.

Injuries are an issue, as he's suffered them in multiple seasons at OSU.

TreVeyon Henderson NFL Player Comparison: Aaron Jones

Like a familiar NFC North foe, Aaron Jones, Henderson can be a big play waiting to happen once he's through the first level. If he hits his top speed by the time he's passing a linebacker, it could be "farewell" and off to the endzone.

TreVeyon Henderson 2025 NFL Draft Grade: 2nd/3rd Round

If he's drafted to the right fit, Henderson will be every bit of a second or third round type of player who could even reach first round type talent. His combination of being a rushing and receiving threat with good speed and over 200 pounds gives him the balanced look many teams are seeking.

But, the question will be whether or not he goes to a team that can pair him with another back, giving him some rest here and there.

He has all the tools to be an effective NFL running back, unless it's behind a bottom-of-the-barrel offensive line or on a team that's going to force feed him 25 touches per game.
