Bears' pivotal position battle did not see much separation after Bills game

Not sure if that's a good thing or not.

It might have been a dominating night for the Chicago Bears as they took care of the Buffalo Bills 38-0 in Week 2 of the preseason, but it still left many questions about the left tackle position.

The Bears decided to roll out Braxton Jones as the starting left tackle in the game with Theo Benedet as the backup. So the question is, how did each guy do?

Starting with Jones, he played left tackle for the first two drives of the game and looked very good. There was one instance where he got beat off the line, but Bears quarterback Caleb Williams got the ball out so quickly that it didn't affect the play as much.

Benedet took over as the second-string left tackle, and there weren't any notable plays where he got beaten. He held his own and gave backup quarterback Tyson Bagent plenty of time in the pocket.

Ozzy Trapilo did not play any snaps at left tackle as he was the second-string right tackle. Despite not playing on the left side, he still played well in a position that he is more comfortable with.

What did Bears fans learn about the left tackle position for Bears

The most telling sign is Trapilo staying on the right side as he had for most of practice at training camp this past week. It's almost starting to feel like he might be out of the conversation at left tackle and it could be a two-man race.

Jones played better than he did in Week 1, but the one miss did not look great. Otherwise, the veteran is doing what he is supposed to do.

Benedet is becoming a fan favorite and someone everyone is starting to pull for to win the starting left tackle job. It's easy to understand why his 6-foot-7, 304-pound frame makes him perfectly built to protect Williams' blind side.

There still isn't a clear winner, but Jones and Benedet will need one more game to help the Bears make their final decision. The one consultation to the situation is both players played well against the Bills.
