The Chicago Bears have finally made the move fans have been begging for with getting a new edge rusher. Kind of.

NFL insider Tom Pelissero reported that the Bears will be signing defensive end Jonathan Garvin to the practice squad. Garvin last played in an NFL regular season game with the Green Bay Packers in 2022. He's racked up 32 tackles, seven quarterback hits, one tackle for loss, 1.5 sacks, and two pass deflections in 38 games.

After getting cut in 2023, Garvin was out of football until he joined the United Football League and signed with the Birmingham Stallions. He helped lead the Stallions to a UFL title that same year.

Bears fans were expecting more when it came to adding a defensive end

There's not going to be many Bears fans who are exactly excited about the move. Signing Garvin is more of a depth signing and may not see much playing time in 2025, unless injuries occur at defensive end.

Bears fans are hoping there will be more coming for the team to help get help off the edge. That hope is that general manager Ryan Poles will be working the phones to trade for another defensive end to get more players who can rush the quarterback.

Montez Sweat has been picking it up of late and is looking poised for a solid season. The Bears' free agent signing, Dayo Odeyingbo, has been a disaster this season and is showing zero signs of improving through seven games this season.

Poles has one week to prove to Bears fans that he's got the right touch in finding the right partner to trade for an edge rusher. If he fails to do so and Chicago misses the postseason after missing out on the trade deadline and Micah Parsons, it could be the end for the guy who just got a contract extension in the summer.
