Chicago Bears rookie wide receiver Luther Burden is ready to make 31 other NFL teams pay for what they did to him.
When the Bears selected Burden early on in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft, there were some who thought that, somehow, he had already gone off the board.
Guess again, because the Bears were lucky enough to end up with a player who had been regarded as the no. 1 wide receiver in the class, by some experts, as recent as late last year.
Here we are, though, with the Bears having got him in the second round, and Burden is ready to make sure every team who passed on him pays for it.
Luther Burden solemnly puts 31 other NFL teams on high alert with recent comments
"That's staying with me forever. So, everybody who passed up on me gotta pay," Burden told the Bears media when asked if he would be able to forget being passed up in the first round.
As they say, those are fightin' words.
It is not hyperbole to say Burden is easily a top-5 playmaker among his draft class. Between he, Ashton Jeanty and a few others, the top of this class was loaded with electrifying players on offense.
Somehow, some way, the Bears were able to score Burden, and on an offense that already had DJ Moore, Rome Odunze, Colston Loveland and Cole Kmet.
Oh, and there's the guy under center, too, whom people expect to take a huge leap in Year 2.
Caleb Williams has to love the attitude from Burden. Williams may have gone no. 1 overall last year, but he's dealt with plenty of scrutiny and he uses it the right way. As a young quarterback who simply wants "football immortality" as his overarching goal, he and Burden will get along perfectly well.
As for the rest of the NFL, well, I can't guarantee they'll get along with Burden. It seems he's out for vengeance.
