The battle might almost be over.

There might be a light at the end of the tunnel when it comes to the Chicago Bears' left tackle position battle going on at training camp.

All training camp, the left tackle position has seen multiple variations of linemen coming in and out of the starting lineup. The battle has been between Braxton Jones, Ozzy Trapilo, Kiran Amegadjie, and Theo Benedet.

Wednesday's practice might have given away that the Bears are one step closer to naming a starter. ESPN Bears reporter Courtney Cronin observed Jones taking all the first-team reps at left tackle.

"Braxton Jones got all the LT reps with the 1s today. Seems the Bears are close to calling that battle with Jones as the Week 1 starter (TBD how long that lasts), Theo Benedet as the backup LT, Ozzy Trapilo as the team's swing tackle."

Is it safe to say that the Bears left tackle battle is over (for now)?

One note Bears fans need to remember, head coach Ben Johnson has already stated that even when they name a starter in Week 1, it could change week by week. They want to ensure they have the best player available based on what is happening during the week of preparation for the game.

Jones always seemed like the guy that would hold down the job since that has been his job. He's the most veteran of the four that played first-team left tackle during camp.

There was some hope that Trapilo might be able to sneak in and steal the job, but he's naturally more suited for the right tackle position and has been comfortable there. He needs more time to develop if the Bears envision him being the future left tackle.

Johnson praised Benedet last week and hinted at some regret in not letting him practice with the first team at left tackle from the beginning of camp. Benedet has the size to play there, but he entered the battle too late and might be ready later in the season if called upon.

Even though Amegadjie was taking first-team reps at the beginning of camp, it was more about when Jones or Trapilo would sit out of camp than anything. Amegadjie hasn't done enough to move the needle on the job and might even be in jeopardy of missing out on making the 53-man roster.

Even if Jones wins this job for Week 1 against the Minnesota Vikings, Bears fans need to keep in mind that it isn't a permanent move. Everything is temporary in the NFL.
