That's a concern.

At the beginning of training camp, Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson set a goal for his quarterback, Caleb Williams, to reach a completion percentage of 70%. So far, Williams isn't quite there.

Johnson spoke with the media about Williams' progress through over three weeks of training camp. He talked about how Williams is hovering around 55% at the moment.

"We’ve been underneath that bar. We’re learning, we’re growing. Early on we were probably 55%. It’s gotten better as camp has gone on but we haven’t hit that threshold as often as we would like."

Johnson shared with the media that it isn't a mechanic issue with Williams. It's all about Williams' feet.

"In my opinion, it always starts with the feet. It doesn't matter what level you are at. It always starts with the feet for the quarterback and if you're not align properly from the ground up, then you're going to have inconsistencies with targets. That's what we've been talking about. Specifically, for all right-handed quarterbacks, when you throw it to a target moving from the right to the left, you typically throw it behind, so you have to train yourself and make sure you're opened up enough to throw him to where he's going to be and not where he's at. That's something we talk about going into the summer break and something we still harp on. You can't get enough of that. It takes a long time to develop habits. That's the starting point. I think he's got a beautiful throwing motion. I mean, that was engrained into him at a very young age. So, it's nothing mechanically wrong, but it's just all about the alignment and getting out in front of the target."

Is this a cause of concern that Williams isn't at the 70% completion percentage at camp?

It's amusing how fans, media, and players have complained about tracking training camp stats, as they don't hold much significance unless they're in a real game. Here, the Bears are ignoring that altogether and focusing on Williams' accuracy.

Last season, Williams achieved a 62.5% completion percentage with a passer rating of 87.8. He had a decent season with 20 touchdowns and six interceptions, but of course, the two stats anyone has focused on this offseason: 68 sacks taken and 10 fumbles.

The positive is that Johnson still seems optimistic that Williams will be okay as a passer, as he loves his throwing motion. Quarterbacks' feet are always something offensive coaches have to work on, especially when it is a young quarterback who is still developing as a passer.

Everyone knows of Williams' athletic ability and making plays while on the run. It's what he does when he is running around; Johnson has been working on all offseason. Williams must make better decisions by getting rid of the ball faster to avoid taking a sack or by setting his feet quickly to make a throw.

Fans often remind us that it's just training camp. There's nothing to worry about regarding Williams' accuracy concerns until the regular season.
