The Chicago Bears would have liked to do better against the Cincinnati Bengals after their 27-9 preseason blowout loss, but some good things still happened.
Chicago seems to have a good problem at RB3 between Roschon Johnson and Salvon Ahmed battling it out for the job. Johnson had 12 carries for 42 yards, and Ahmed had 50 yards on nine total touches.
Most Bears fans would declare Ahmed the leader in the RB3 job, but that might be too hasty of an opinion. Johnson might find himself doing well in the competition.
Ben Johnson chimes in on Roschon Johnson after Bears loss
After the game, Bears head coach Ben Johnson spoke with the media, where he was asked about Roschon and his battle to win that RB3 job. Ben did not hesitate to talk about his back.
"He flashed the other day, in particular on special teams, and we keep talking about the importance of being the number three running back or depth in the running back room and being able to bring that to the table," Ben Johnson said. "He had a couple really nice plays in practice, can't wait to see what it looked like on game tape, because we talked about wanting to see players stack good performances back-to-back, and he's a candidate that may have done that tonight."
Entering training camp, Roschon Johnson was a top candidate to be cut from the roster since he only had two carries last year and lost his backup job to Kyle Monangai. Many Bears fans and media were ready to give up on Johnson and move on.
Ahmed complicated things in camp when he took over for Monangai during his first injury and played well in practice. Things got better for Ahmed after scoring a long 49-yard touchdown catch in the 34-10 blowout preseason win over the Cleveland Browns in Week 1.
The problem is that Johnson and Ahmed are just two different styles of running back. Johnson is a power back, while Ahmed is a speed guy. Bears fans prefer the speed guy since Monangai is now the team's power back.
This decision coming up for the Bears might force them to consider keeping both and carrying four backs on the roster. Last year, they had to do that because of injuries so that it could happen again.

Chicago faces a tough decision about who to keep and who to let go. Still, at least this is a good problem to have.
