Ben Johnson is officially in place as the Chicago Bears head coach after being introduced by the team on Wednesday. In one of his first official moves as the head coach of the Bears, Johnson made sweeping changes to the team's offensive coaching staff.
There had been some speculation that the Bears may look to retain Thomas Brown in some capacity as a way to offer a familiar voice for quarterback Caleb Williams. However, given Brown seemingly would take a demotion in remaining with the Bears, it's no surprise to see him among the coaches not being retained by the Bears. Brown has already interviewed with the Seattle Seahawks to potentially serve as their new offensive coordinator and has been rumored to be of interest to Aaron Glenn and the New York Jets.
In addition to Brown, the Bears won't be bringing back offensive coaches Chris Beatty, Chris Morgan, and Kerry Joseph. The Bears' move on from Morgan is notable considering he was a holdover from Matt Nagy's coaching staff when Matt Eberflus was named the team's head coach.
It will be interesting to see how Johnson fills the offensive side of his coaching staff. Hank Fraley was once rumored to be making the jump from the Lions to the Bears with Johnson but the latest indications are Fraley will not be coming to Chicago. Fraley, who interviewed for the Seahawks' offensive coordinator opening as well, could replace Johnson as the Lions' offensive coordinator.
No surprise to see Eric Washington leaving as defensive coordinator. Dennis Allen remains the rumored favorite to be the next defensive coordinator of the Bears. The Bears have requested to interview Los Angeles Rams' assistant Aubrey Pleasant for the opening as well.
There is a chance that Richard Hightower will return as the Bears' Special Teams coordinator. The Bears have been linked to Darren Rizzi but Rizzi has been in high demand this offseason.
