After Sunday's 25-24 win for the Chicago Bears over the Las Vegas Raiders, there have been some questions about what is to come for the team after the bye week.
Bears head coach Ben Johnson made a major in the middle of the Bears-Raiders game that caught everyone's attention. After replacing the injured Darnell Wright at right tackle in his first career start, Theo Benedet was moved to left tackle to replace the struggling Braxton Jones. Rookie second-round pick Ozzy Trapilo finished the game at right tackle.
That move seemed to have paid off with 10 points scored on the first two possessions with Benedet at left tackle. Chicago ultimately picked up the win, creating a controversy that was visible to every Bears fan from a mile away.
Jones won the left tackle job at training camp over Trapilo and Benedet, but it wasn't a convincing win for him. Johnson mentioned before the season that the left tackle position would be monitored on a week-by-week basis.
He wasn't kidding when he said that.
Latest Bears rumor might lead to a new starting left tackle after the bye week
The Chicago Tribune's Brad Biggs wrote a column on Tuesday that discussed what might happen at left tackle once the team is back from the bye week. A source told him that the Bears are eyeing Benedet to be the starting left tackle over Jones for their Week 6 Monday night matchup with the Washington Commanders. He did mention that the situation is fluid, so things can change.
Johnson was asked about the left tackle position on Monday and mentioned that they would go through the first four games' tapes and make a determination from that.
This shouldn't come as a surprise, as it is a move most Bears fans have been expecting for weeks. Jones has struggled through the first four games, allowing 15 pressures, two sacks, and PFF gave him an overall grade of 55 (71st out of 108 qualified tackles).
While Benedet struggled at right tackle, once he moved over to left tackle, he he got into a groove and played well. Even Trapilo performed well at right tackle and didn't allow a quarterback hit or a sack from the Raiders' Maxx Crosby.
Remember, Johnson was a big fan of Benedet in training camp. The only reason Benedet didn't win the left tackle job was that he competed for the position late in camp, something Johnson himself has admitted as a reason he didn't have the advantage at the time.

Bears fans will most likely have to wait until next week for the official word, but it appears that all signs are pointing towards them getting their wish of Benedet getting the starting left tackle job.
