The 2025 Chicago Bears have put together a memorable season in Ben Johnson's first year as head coach.
Going into the final week of the regular season, the Bears have already clinched the NFC North, a spot in the Wild Card round, and have an opportunity to win 12 games for the first time since 2018.
Chicago's team success is undeniable, but numerous players have produced great individual seasons. One of those players is running back D'Andre Swift.
How D'Andre Swift is having a career season for Bears in 2025
The Bears’ veteran running back has eclipsed 1,000 yards rushing for the second time in his career (1,047), and with three more rushing yards, he will set a new career high, which should be a given against the Detroit Lions at Soldier Field in the regular-season finale.
Swift hasn't just improved his total rushing yards, but also his expected points added per rush. According to SumerSports, Swift has a 0.07 EPA/Rush for running backs with at least 100 rushes, which ranks No. 4 in the NFL. Only Blake Corum (1st, 0.12), Rachadd White (2nd, 0.11), and Jonathan Taylor (3rd, 0.07) are ahead of Swift this season.
Swift has seen a dramatic turnaround with Johnson as the playcaller and the offensive line upgrades. In Swift's first season in Chicago, he had a -0.15 EPA/Rush, which ranked 40th in the league among running backs.
SumerSports started tracking EPA/Rush in 2022, and Swift had the first 1,000-yard rushing season of his career with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2023. His EPA/Rush that season was 0.01, which was eighth in the league.
The 2025 version of Swift is the best he has been as a rusher in the NFL. He has set career highs in rushing touchdowns (nine) and rushing first downs (59). And he has achieved those marks despite splitting carries with rookie Kyle Monangai.
