Coming off of a tough loss against the Green Bay Packers (one with major playoff implications), Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson knew he needed to use his time at the podium this week to breathe some life back into the fan base.

Especially when it comes to quarterback Caleb Williams.

As fun as the second half of that Bears-Packers game was, the ending is all anyone can think about. Even though he hit a touchdown on the same exact play against the Eagles, Caleb Williams threw a brutal interception on 4th down to Packers defensive back Keisean Nixon. The important thing is not to dwell on that game-ending interception, but to use that moment as a chip on your shoulder.

Ben Johnson wants more high-stakes games for Caleb Williams and the Bears

This comment from Johnson is both exciting and a bit sobering. Of course, the idea of getting Caleb Williams nad this Bears team into the playoffs is the ultimate goal at this point, but Johnson's comment starting off with that word "hopefully" is a little concerning.

Still, to hear the head coach's confidence in his quarterback, saying that he thinks he would be playing his "best" football when the Bears earn the right to play in those high-stakes games.

When Johnson took this job with the Bears, they were a last-place team that had clearly underachieved in Williams's rookie season. He had a massive task before him of not only helping Williams get on track as a starter in the pros, but also bringing the Bears back into relevance in a division that was seemingly too loaded to make any noise realistically.

It's easy to be frustrated with the development of a young quarterback like Caleb Williams. He weighed the world on his shoulders, coming in as the #1 overall pick, a former Heisman Trophy winner, and being compared to so many great quarterbacks coming out of college. Everyone expects the overnight success with a prospect that's given that much attention and praise, but the NFL is a different beast.

Williams has shown so much progress this season in several different aspects of his game, but he's the type of quarterback who can take over games when he does get hot. And that's what Johnson is referring to here.

Hopefully for the Bears, it's a matter of when they get in the playoffs, not if. They have been such a great story this season, and with a defense that can create takeaways like this Chicago defense can, you want to get there by whatever means necessary.

They have to get back on track immediately against the Browns before that matchup against the Packers in Chicago next week.
