The critics don't want to believe it.

Coming out of a bye week, the Chicago Bears are hoping to find themselves over .500 and with a win over the Washington Commanders; a team they would love to have some revenge over from last season.

One major difference this year, versus last, has been the improvement of Caleb Williams under head coach Ben Johnson. The second-year quarterback is always a trending topic, and during Johnson's media time after a recent practice, it was no different.

When asked about Williams' progress, Johnson talked about what he sees on tape and how his quarterback is improving each and every week.

"You see him getting a little bit better and better every single week ... he doesn't make the same mistake twice, very often," Johnson said.

Let us be very clear when remembering just how hard Johnson has been on his quarterback. Especially during training camp, Johnson seemed unimpressed for a vast majority of his media time.

Ben Johnson is noticing far less repeated mistakes from Caleb Williams

We are used to seeing repeated mistakes from Bears quarterbacks. It's been a trend for a while now.

This could date back to repeated mistakes from past quarterbacks like Justin Fields and Mitchell Trubisky, but fans who watched Williams' entire rookie season and even over the first couple of games, this year, had noticed some very similar mistakes made.

For all of last year and even early this season, Williams' cardinal sin was overthrowing open targets. It was a pain point that Bears fans grew tired of watching in a hurry.

And, over the past couple of games, there has been real growth in that area. Williams has been much more on-target with his deliveries. Not only that, but he's also shown signs of growth in terms of holding the ball too long.

We know about the sacks as a rookie. But, a chunk of them were due to the fact that Williams tried to play hero ball and hold onto it for way too long. This season, we're seeing him sacked a lot less often and he is getting rid of the football quicker. If he isn't, he'll take off and run. Johnson's noticed that as well:

"At the top of his drop, he's ready to deliver the ball to his primary receiver ... if it's not there, he quickly progresses to two, to three, and will end up taking off if need be."

These conversations are, of course, difficult for the critics to hear. However, the reality is that Williams is playing good football. He has improved week in and week out under Johnson, and we're only four games in.
