When thinking of Ben Johnson's offense with the Detroit Lions, he used two running backs often, with David Montgomery being the power back and Jahmyr Gibbs being the speed back.
While Johnson does not have a great history with current Chicago Bears' running back D’Andre Swift, it may be hard for the team to move on this season. If Swift is back, which backs in free agency would be a good compliment to the Chicago Bears' offense?
Najee Harris
Najee Harris has posted 1,000 yards in all four of his seasons, but he is viewed as unspectacular. It is similar to David Montgomery in that he is flying under the radar despite never struggling as a runner. He also brings a power component that could free up Swift for the plays in space. If the price is right on Harris, he is the best fit.
Javonte Williams
Javonte Williams is exactly the type of player to bet on in free agency. He had to fight back from injury, the coaching staff that drafted him got fired and he flew under the radar. Still, this is a player who will 25 this upcoming season and he is a former top-35 pick.
Cam Akers
Cam Akers started to get some work late in the season for the Minnesota Vikings, and Ben Johnson saw his best game of the year in Week 18. He has gone through a lot injury-wise and has bounced around the NFL, but he is another young player, as he will be 26 this season. He is also a former second-round pick and could be signed to a team-friendly deal.
A.J. Dillon
A.J. Dillon had a neck injury ended his 2024 season with a snap. He now enters free agent before his age 26 season. He has put up 600 yards in three straight years prior to the injury and would be a solid power compliment to Swift.
