We've got the gossip you crave.

It's Monday morning, so we could talk about the Bears' embarrassing loss to the 49ers yesterday. We could talk about how checked out they looked, how uninspiring they played, or how much of an indictment the Week 14 loss was on just about everyone in that locker room. We could all get mad about what a waste of time this season was, or how the Bears continue to not learn from their overwhelming failures.

Or, alternatively, we could gossip. All the purpose in being grumpy about the Bears disappeared sometime before Thanksgiving, which is only bleak if you let it be. Why don't we just enjoy the last month of the season with fun lil' gossipy updates about the Bears' coaching search? They may already let us down this season, but they haven't messed this up yet! (There's always time.)

One of the most dramatic coaching candidates to be even-slightly connected to the Bears so far has been Bill Belichick. And when I say "even-slightly connected" what I mean is "people are Tweeting about it." There is, unfortunately, an argument to be made for the two sides to consider one another, even if it's not wildly convincing. But according to a new report from Mike Florio and Pro Football Talk, it's not happening. And here's the twist: it's the Bears that aren't at all interested. Huh!

The Bears reportedly want no part of Bill Belichick right now

"Bill Belichick made headlines last week by making a connection to the vacancy at North Carolina. He is, by all appearances, serious about the possibility of coaching at the college level. There’s a reason or two for it. As explained during Sunday’s Football Night in America, Belichick is (I’m told) “very surprised” that he has yet to hear from NFL teams about coaching in 2025.

Currently, three jobs are vacant — the Jets, Saints, and Bears. None, we’re told, have reached out to Belichick."

On one hand, it's not all that surprising to hear that the first batch of teams with openings aren't super bullish on Belichick. He's in his mid-70s, and even with all those Super Bowl rings, it's hard to see a world where he's a wildly successful coach for the next decade. I also suspect that teams that already have openings before the season's even over don't want to lose the luxury of patience.

On the other, it's extremely Not The Bears to not even call Belichick's reps. He loves defense! He probably has a detailed scouting report on every player from the '85 team. The move had the McCaskeys' name written all over it. But it's apparently a new era in Chicago – one that looks a lot like the old era, but is definitely, totally, absolutely new and different. The Ben Johnson dream lives on another week!
