Bleacher Report redraft has Bears getting tight end (but not Colston Loveland)

Did the Chicago Bears already know they made a mistake in the 2025 NFL draft?

One writer from Bleacher Report thinks so. Brad Gagnon conducted a redo of the 2025 draft and gave the Bears Tyler Warren instead of Colston Loveland

"Both Warren and Loveland are off to solid starts, but it was Warren who posted the second-highest qualified PFF grade at the tight end position in August. He looks like the more explosive and reliable of the two. The Bears may have drafted the wrong tight end."

Does Warren make more sense over Loveland in a redraft?

First, this exercise is insane. There has not been a single snap. We may have a slight idea who looks good and who does not in the preseason, but for the most part, it is a guessing game. Some teams do not even have their actual playcaller call the plays; instead, they have an assistant.

Some teams are working on things, some starters look great against backups, and some rookies struggle because their time is limited to playing a star in the preseason. Acting like you can really judge anything, like changing your draft opinion after this short of a time period, is going to be a bit misguided.

Saying that the Bears took the wrong tight end because Loveland did not look as good as Warren, because of PFF grades, is something else. At least point to a skill set or a particular moment where you saw Warren look good.

Most Bears fans would say that they are pleased with the progression of Loveland, and Ben Johnson schemed up some specific plays for Loveland with Caleb Williams at quarterback, showing how much the coach believes he can make an impact this season.

That brings up the most important part: Ben Johnson is buying into Warren. Ben Johnson spent months looking into these two tight ends and thought Loveland was better. He went through the summer and has been satisfied with him, and he is drawing up plays for him as a playmaker during his rookie season.

He has Mykel Williams going 11th. If you wanted to make an argument that the Bears are still a bit weak at edge rusher and they are looking at overkill at the skill player spots, that is a case that can be made.

Saying that Loveland over Warren is already a mistake is likely leaning on the writer being in favor of Warren pre-draft, when the head coach of the Chicago Bears vehemently disagreed.
