Last season almost felt like a hard reality check for Chicago Bears left tackle Braxton Jones, or some might see it as a learning lesson for him.
Jones started the first four games at left tackle before being replaced by Theo Benedet, and an injury ended up costing him most of the season. This offseason, he returned to the franchise on a one-year deal as he guns for the starting left tackle job.
In a recent visit on "The Set with Terron Armstead," Jones talked about comments that were made by his offensive line coach, Dan Roushar, back in February, when the coach told the tackles what the expectations were at left tackle. That blunt assessment from his coach is something Jones actually took to heart in a positive way.
“I think the biggest thing is actually knowing what Ben (Johnson) and Dan are looking for. I think that’s huge for myself. That’s why I’m very blessed for last year and how it went. To learn and really watch and sit back and look at what Dan is looking for and his minor details.”
Braxton Jones looks to learn from his 2025 season and improve for the Bears
What a great response from Jones, who has faced some adversity going into the 2026 season. If it hadn't been for Ozzy Trapilo's injury in the playoff win over the Green Bay Packers last season, Jones might not be back with the team.
Instead, there appears to be a three-man battle between Jones, Benedet, and new free agent signing Jedrick Wills Jr. Jones appears to be the frontrunner early on since he has experience in the offense and has already gotten good compliments from his head coach.

This is a massive season in Jones's career, as this could either help him stay in Chicago as the long-term starter, land him a big contract next offseason with another team, or make him a career backup in 2027 and beyond.
