There is nothing "easy" about building a winning team in the NFL, especially when you're trying to go from "worst to first" in one of the toughest divisions in football. But the Chicago Bears got one thing right after bringing on Ben Johnson as the team's new head coach in 2025: Building the offensive line.

If there is an "easy button" to raising the proverbial floor for any franchise around the league, it's getting better play on the offensive and defensive lines. If you can win in the trenches, you're going to be in most games and give yourself a chance.

For the Bears, upgrading the offensive line was mission-critical in 2025, not just to raise the floor of the team, but to actually protect Caleb Williams and put him in a position to grow as a player. And Williams has enjoyed the fruit of the front office's labor this season, to the point that he's even given his offensive line a nickname.

Now, what the media needs to do the next time they get Caleb Williams at the podium is really put his Marvel knowledge to the test and ask about who he would compare each offensive lineman to when it comes to them being the Avengers.

Either way, this is a great precursor to what will likely be an impressive gift (or gifts) given to his linemen here at Christmastime.

And this is as much a Ryan Poles/Ben Johnson appreciation statement as it is anything else. The Bears knew they needed to upgrade the offensive line in a big way during the 2025 offseason, and they devoted important assets to doing precisely that.

The trade for Joe Thuney looks better by the day for the Bears, and worse by the day for the Chiefs. That was a fleecing if ever a fleecing there was.

Beyond that, the Bears were aggressive in free agency, going after center Drew Dalman. That's not a move that's going to sell a bunch of jerseys, but it's a move that has undeniably upgraded the offensive line from the inside out.

The trade to acquire Jonah Jackson was also huge, and the Bears made somewhat of a controversial pick of Ozzy Trapilo in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Of course, Trapilo is going through the typical non-linear progression of a rookie, especially after facing Myles Garrett in a brutal matchup. Still, he's done well and looks like a nice find at a premium position.

And Caleb Williams is enjoying the benefits of having improved offensive line play. Sacks are often a stat that is wrongfully attributed to only the offensive line, but the fact that Williams has only taken 23 sacks in 14 games this season, compared to 68 sacks all of last season, is worth noting.

The numbers are staggering and not only represent significant improvement for the offense as a whole, but they also allow Williams to be the player he was drafted to be.
