The 2025 Chicago Bears have had an absurd number of close games that have come down to the wire. Already, Ben Johnson's club has set an NFL record with six game-winning, fourth-quarter comeback drives.
The crazy thing is, the Bears could very well have eight at this point, padding the record even further. In two of their last four games, this team has lost on the game's final play, in total, heartbreaking fashion.
After the Bears' latest loss on Sunday Night Football, to the San Francisco 49ers, it was hard not to look back and the "would haves and should haves." But, quarterback Caleb Williams is taking it in stride, all while comparing this loss to the one suffered a few weeks back to the hands of the Green Bay Packers:
"We just had a loss a couple weeks ago vs. our rival, kind of similar to this. So, you know, you fight, you fight, you fight. You don't come out victorious, okay. You go back, you look at it, you figure out what went wrong."
Ah, yes. That's the game Bears fans all want to remember and look back on.
Caleb Williams was honest about where the Bears go after a gut-wrenching loss
Despite striking a nerve with Bears fans everywhere, Williams also addressed how he and his teammates can come back from a tough loss like this.
"We just so happened to make too many mistakes ... we go back, we fix those, we play our brand of football, offense, defense, special teams. And from there, we give the best chance to ourselves to go win the ball game."
It sounds like pure coach-speak coming from Williams, but to hear that he is taking this loss as calmly as possible is a great thing. This interview with former Bears fullback Jason McKie came immediately after the game on ESPN 1000.
The fact that he's able to collect himself and give an honest assessment like that is a sign of a true professional. Williams and his teammates are obviously gutted by the outcome, especially that the game's final play was the deciding factor.
But, from here, they move forward and correct the mistakes they made, just like they did after the loss to Green Bay.

Now, the Bears have one game left before the playoffs start, and it's against a team Johnson would very much like to beat: the Detroit Lions. It's time to have a short memory and move forward, like Williams is already doing.
