Caleb Williams opens up about Ben Johnson catfish prank in recent interview

It's good to be able to laugh at one's self, I suppose.

Just a few days ago, Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams found himself falling for the good, old catfish prank.

For those who might not have heard or seen, Williams received some text messages from a person claiming to be Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson. This person led Williams to believe Johnson was going to be the Bears' next head coach.

As it turns out, Williams and this person wound up on a FaceTime call together only for the quarterback to discover it was a group of kids that had pranked him.

On the latest episode of the St. Brown Podcast, Williams joined brothers Amon-Ra and Equanimeous St. Brown to discuss a myriad of topics, but first and foremost, the prank.

When explaining the prank, Williams let everybody know that Amon-Ra was involved, as well. Funny enough, the Lions wide receiver apologized and even took some of the blame.

After Williams started receiving texts from the culprits, he reached out to Amon-Ra in order to see if the phone numbers matched, looking to find out if this was, actually, Ben Johnson on the other end.

"I reached out to Amon-Ra. I asked Amon-Ra for Ben's number ... I was asking him so I could see if it matches his number," he said.

Williams then laughed as he said Amon-Ra never responded to his text.

"Amon-Ra does Amon-Ra things and doesn't text back," Williams said, smiling.

All the while, Amon-Ra was actually at dinner when Williams texted him, which is why he didn't respond right away.

Williams said he messaged Amon-Ra back 20 minutes later and said "It's all good. I called and it wasn't him."

Overall, Williams was in great spirits and kept it positive when explaining the prank. He seemed to be a good sport about it all and even gave the pranksters credit.

"The text was, like, so official," Williams said. "It was a classic prank. It was a grade A prank. I got to give them props."

Caleb Williams was, indeed, upset over the Ben Johnson prank call

Now, even though it was a prank well done, that doesn't mean Williams wasn't irritated. He knew that, the moment he hung up the phone, those kids were going to send that video all over social media and it would spread like wildfire.

"I was trying not to flip out because I knew they were probably recording ... but when I got off the call I was fuming," he admitted.

Williams acknowledged that he did, indeed, have to change his phone number and called it a "bright side" to the situation noting that, now, nobody has his number. While this would be a nightmare for most average adults, imagine having to go through a number change with endless contacts as a professional athlete.

Oh, well. If Williams sees that as a positive, that's one more feather in his cap. He's taken all of this in stride and remained professional. You've got to give the young man some props.
