Caleb Williams proves he's got something else in mind other than Bears history

Week 18 might end up being a historical one for the Chicago Bears as they close in on one of the best seasons in years, but quarterback Caleb Williams could see himself on top of the quarterback mountain of the Windy City.

Williams is 109 yards away from breaking the franchise record for passing yards in a season. More importantly, though, is that he is 270 yards away from being the first quarterback in Bears history to throw for over 4,000 yards in a season. While that would be an honor for Williams, he's also focused on the bigger picture.

"I think for me, it'd be cool just in the sense of, there's never been one here," Williams said via ESPN's Courtney Cronin. "I think I was brought here for those types of things and those types of moments, the things that haven't been done here, to try and be able to accomplish. Like I've said before, the self goals and all of that always get swept under when you go for the team goals, and that's winning ball games, so that's first and foremost on my mind. That's first and foremost for this team, because the most important thing is winning ball games and heading into the playoffs with some momentum and some good energy heading into the playoffs."

Williams has the right mindset going into Week 18 against the Detroit Lions

Week 18 is a massive one for the Bears, as they are still fighting the Philadelphia Eagles for the number-two seed in the NFC. All Chicago has to do is beat the Detroit Lions, and they will earn it. The Bears could also have the Eagles lose their game, and they would win that way, too.

For the season, Williams has thrown for 3,730 yards and 25 touchdowns, with six interceptions, and added another three touchdowns on the ground. He has put up a better season than last year despite completing less than 58% of his passes.

History is right there for Williams, but the Bears are having a special season to the point where Super Bowl is now on the top of their minds. Chicago doesn't need their franchise quarterback to be all about stats even if the city would love a 4,000-yard passer.

For the Windy City, it's all about winning a Super Bowl now and Williams is all about that plan as well.
