Despite the chance to play his old team twice a year, there are rare occasions when Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson can really stick it to the Detroit Lions, but one opportunity just presented itself.

ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that the Lions released offensive lineman Graham Glasgow from the team to help them save $5.5 million against the cap. Glasgow has been primarily a guard during his time in the NFL, but has also played center. He started 14 games last year for the Lions.

Glasgow has a prior relationship with Johnson as the two were together in Detroit in 2023 and 2024. Could a reunion be in the works with Johnson and Glasgow in Chicago?

Bears might want to consider bringing in Graham Glasgow in 2026

Glasgow has been a veteran lineman in the NFL since the Lions picked him in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft. He played seven non-consecutive years in Detroit while also playing three years with the Denver Broncos.

The real concern on the Bears' offensive line is at left tackle, with Ozzy Trapilo expected to miss a big chunk of the 2026 season with his ruptured patellar tendon, which he suffered in the playoff win over the Green Bay Packers. Braxton Jones is a free agent, so that leaves an opening for the Bears to find Caleb Williams' blind side blocker.

Chicago does have Theo Benedet coming back on a one-year deal, and he has left tackle experience, but his inconsistent play helped Trapilo take over for him. While the Bears did have starting left guard Joe Thuney at left tackle for the playoff loss against the Los Angeles Rams, Chicago wants to keep Thuney at left guard.

Glasgow could be an option there, but it seems very unlikely the Bears would do that since he's more of a guard. If anything, Glasgow would be a great depth player at guard behind Thuney and Jonah Jackson, as the learning curve would be short since Glasgow knows Johnson's offense.

Never underestimate the value of having solid offensive linemen on the bench. Imagine if Johnson signs Glasgow and ends up helping them out when they need it the most in 2026. What a way to really stick it to the Lions for giving up hope on him.
