The Chicago Bears wrapped up Day 4 of training camp, and it is becoming clear that this team is the whole package.
While the offense has stolen the attention through the first three days, the Bears' defense took full advantage of the bad weather and was the star of the day. Caleb Williams and the receivers struggled throughout the day, as the defense was making play after play.
Chicago's biggest play on defense for the day went to new safety Coby Bryant. After showing good awareness of the play ahead of him, Bryant reached out and picked off Williams for a signature moment of training camp.

"Bounce-back day for the Bears defense," CHGO Adam Hoge reported on X. "Coby Bryant had a good practice, including a really nice INT over the top on a Caleb Williams deep ball. Tracked it well.
Coverage was much better, but Caleb also wasn't as sharp. Too many drops in the slick conditions too. Most of practice was in a light rain."
Coby Bryant is off to a fast start at Bears training camp
When the Bears signed Bryant to a three-year, $40 million contract, many were wondering what kind of player they would get. He showed off his great skills with the Seattle Seahawks during their Super Bowl run last year, finishing with 66 tackles, seven pass deflections, four tackles for loss, a career-high four interceptions, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery in 15 games.
Bryant adds a different dynamic to the secondary that Kevin Byard and Jaquan Brisker didn't have over the last few years. While those guys were reliant on creating turnovers and big hits, Bryant can do it all from back there.
The biggest strength to Bryant's game is exactly what he did to Williams: play recognition. He knows what is going to happen on the play and can act on it quickly to either break up the play or create a turnover. Bryant may not be the turnover machine that Byard was in 2025, but his coverage skills should increase.
Another aspect of Bryant's game that seems to be a big help to the defense is his leadership. He is taking that role headfirst and making sure his presence is known on the field, physically and verbally.
Bryant is going to be leaned on early and often for the Bears as a mentor to rookie Dillon Thieneman. Thieneman has potential through the roof, so if Bryant can get him playing as he does, the sky is the limit for the rookie out of Oregon.

This defense needed a big boost after struggling throughout the 2025 season. Bryant already looks like the guy this unit has needed for a long time.
