There are no arguments that Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams will be a great player in the NFL, as he has already shown signs of that. The real question is whether he is one of the best right now.
A lot of factors go into Williams being great now, beyond just the potential that he has shown in his first two NFL seasons. FanSided's Sayre Bedinger is already bought into the hype, as he named Williams the best quarterback in the NFC North.
"If we're talking about best arm talent in the division, Williams is at the top. If we're talking about the best dual-threat at the position in the division, Williams is probably at the top as well."
"There are many reasons why Williams is already on the cover of the Madden video game, and why he's considered one of the brightest young stars in the league."
Is Caleb Williams really the best quarterback in the NFC North right now?
The 2025 season was a strong one for Williams, as he threw for a franchise-record 3,942 yards and 27 touchdowns to seven interceptions, adding another four scores on the ground and as a receiver. He also led an NFL record seven comebacks and game-winning drives last season, with six happening in the regular season and one in the playoff win over the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Wild Card Round.
Bedinger added that if he had gone off consistent production year after year, he would have gone with Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff. Bears fans have to admit that Goff is a very good quarterback, but to Bedinger's point, Williams has all the physical tools that make him better than the others.
The kind of arm talent that Williams has can't be coached or taught; that is something he was born with. Everyone saw it over and over again last year with throws like both of his game-winning scores to DJ Moore against the Packers, the Rome Odunze pitch and catch on fourth down in the playoff game against Green Bay, and the spectacular Moore touchdown throw against the Cleveland Browns in the regular season.
There are aspects of Williams' game that must improve over the next year for him to become an elite NFL quarterback. The most important is accuracy, as he has never had a completion percentage above 63% in his first two NFL seasons.

Bears fans know, though, that his potential is through the roof more than any other quarterback in franchise history. That belief in him has been spreading like wildfire in the offseason, with some talking MVP for the young quarterback, and it could realistically happen.
