There have been teams that have called the Chicago Bears about potentially trading for wide receiver DJ Moore, but there might be one that general manager Ryan Poles should have on speed dial.

NFL insider Tom Pelissero reported that the New England Patriots have informed wide receiver Stefon Diggs that he will be released when the new league year begins. Diggs spent only one year with the Patriots after also playing for the Minnesota Vikings, Buffalo Bills, and Houston Texans.

New England is left with a massive hole at wide receiver, but early reports have been that they are willing to spend big money on a free agent. This might be the time for the Bears to step in and see if they can make them an offer they can't refuse to take Moore off their hands.

Bears should call Patriots about DJ Moore

The biggest thing for the Bears is that they can get Moore off the books, as he is a heavy hitter on the cap hit. If Chicago keeps him on the roster in 2026, they are looking at a $28.5 million cap hit, but if they can trade him before June 1, the Bears will save $16.5 million.

In terms of what compensation the Bears would want, they might not be as picky as the Philadelphia Eagles are with their wide receiver A.J. Brown, who is asking for a first- and second-round pick. The Bears might be looking more for a Day 2 pick to be satisfied and move on with their lives.

All indications have been that the Bears like Moore, and Moore likes being in Chicago. Ultimately, it all comes down to what kind of offer they get and if the Bears want to create more cap space to work this offseason.

This is the time for Poles to get on the phone and see what the Patriots would want for Moore to see if they can get a deal done before free agency kicks off next week.
