Chicago Bears fans finally got their revenge over the Green Bay Packers in 2025. Not only did the Bears win the NFC North for the first time since 2018, but they also knocked the Packers out of the postseason in the Wild Card round.
This summer has given the Bears even more opportunities to laugh at the Packers' expense. One glaring issue for Green Bay during the 2025 season was at kicker, as Brandon McManus was not reliable for the Green and Gold.
The Packers thought they fixed this issue by spending a sixth-round pick on Florida kicker Trey Smack. Despite Smack being a rookie, he's the only kicker on Green Bay's roster right now, and it appears fans are concerned about how poorly he's performed in training camp so far.
Ongoing kicking issues could haunt Packers once again
Rob Demovsky of ESPN noted that Smack missed two of five field goals during Sunday's practice with the two misses coming from 38 and 45 yards out. Both went wide left, according to Demovsky. Those should be makable distances in today's NFL.
Freddie Boston of Lombardi Ave, FanSided's Packers site, discussed these concerns and said that Green Bay might need to "rethink their decision". He touched on what Demovsky reported and expressed his worries about Smack and the Packers' kicking woes in recent years.
"Smack was worryingly inconsistent during OTAs and minicamp, where crosswinds also impacted his accuracy," Boston wrote. "Smack may turn it around, but the Packers at least need a Plan B. The strategy can't just be to hope the rookie figures it out... The Packers should leave no stone unturned in their search for a consistent kicker. Smack may be the long-term solution, but after a rocky few months, the team can't be as all-in on their rookie kicker as they'd like to be."
This is all music to Bears fans' ears. If the Packers' kicking woes continue, it only makes things easier for Chicago. We saw time after time last season how McManus flubbed in the biggest moments for Green Bay, and, despite the Green and Gold thinking they fixed the issue with Smack, that doesn't appear to be the case.

If a Bears-Packers game comes down to a game-winning kick by the Packers, Bears fans might be able to relax a bit knowing that Green Bay might not have fixed the issue that plagued them over and over again a season ago.
