NFL.com has recently published its final quarterback power rankings for the 2025 season, and Caleb Williams made the list. Not only did he make the list, but he ranked among the top ten. Sitting at the #8 spot, Williams jumped twenty spots over his 2024 finish.
Williams made significant strides in his play during his second season in the NFL, his first under Bears head coach Ben Johnson. The wider NFL media touted this match as a good one, and the duo was quick to wow the world with their incredible pairing. Caleb's momentous improvement was a hot topic league-wide throughout the season, especially after his remarkable ability led the Bears to an unlikely victory.
From 28 to 8
In 2024, NFL.com ranked Williams #28, and it's not unreasonable to see why the results fell that way. 2024 saw Williams scramble in the backfield far more than he'd like, and saw him take more sacks than any other quarterback, and it wasn't even close. He went from a 68-sack season to a 24-sack season. That alone could shift confidence and change the entire outcome of a player's season.
Ryan Poles and the Bears front office have worked tirelessly to bolster the offensive line and build around Caleb. Protecting Williams became the number one priority, and additions such as Thuney and Jonah Jackson made all the difference. An offensive line that could support him meant Williams didn't have to focus as much on avoiding hits, creating an environment for him to thrive.
Jumping twenty spots in the rankings over last year is a feat any quarterback would be proud of. Williams has been under a substantial amount of scrutiny since being drafted first overall, and his rise to prominence has now been vindicated.
