The Chicago Bears are going to have a few tough decisions when it comes to free agency, and one of them could be letting Nahshon Wright go.
The free agent is listed as the 37th-best free agent in the ranking on ESPN by Matt Bowen. Still, Bowen projects him to leave the Bears and sign with the New York Giants in free agency.
"With a need to add more playmakers in the secondary, the Giants should target Wright, who had five interceptions and returned one for a touchdown last season with the Bears. Under new defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson, Wright can use his long 6-foot-4 frame and good instincts in Cover 2 and press-man."
Will the Chicago Bears lose Nahshon Wright to a conference rival in NFL Free agency?
Wright was great for the Bears last season, but essentially nailed the idea that he will not be back with the team. Chicago is paying Jaylon Johnson and Kyler Gordon, and while they can maneuver those contracts, those two have a longer track record to go with their salaries as well.Â
The team also has Tyrique Stevenson, and while this coaching staff did not draft him, he was also not a complete dud last year and still has physical traits to be a starter in the NFL. The team has enough needs that they cannot be this invested at cornerback with three potential starters already locked down.Â
Wright had a great year, but it is a risk to bet on it happening consistently. With the team having to keep their cap situation fresh and pay other positions, it is easy to see Wright leaving.Â
The hard thing will be seeing him go to the Giants. Bowen notes that the Giants' secondary was their issue last year.Â
They will have a new defensive coordinator, could see some upgraded cornerback play, and Abdul Carter will have another year to mesh with a strong defensive line for the Giants. When you add in that the team has a better head coach, they should be healthier with their stars, such as Malik Nabers, Andrew Thomas, and Jaxon Dart, who flashed last year, the Giants could be a sneaky team. This makes for a good fit overall.Â

It is not going to be fun, but fans should start preparing now for whoever steals Wright away. The hope is that it actually is an AFC team.
