The Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers rivalry has intensified over the last year, especially with both teams having their franchise quarterbacks, Jordan Love and Caleb Williams, to lean on.
Williams got the best of Love last season, winning two of the three matchups the Bears and Packers had. The debate, though, rages on as to whether Williams or Love is the better of the two. Sports Illustrated's Matt Verderame put that to rest, with Love ranked eighth and Williams ranked 11th, with one reason being pointed towards the Bears signal-caller.
"There are warning signs. Williams completed just 58.1% of his attempts, the lowest of anybody with 300 passes last season, while also posting a league-worst -6.9% CPOE. In the playoffs, Williams made some of the most magnificent throws you’ll ever see, but also tossed five interceptions in two games. For Williams, it’s about eliminating the lows while maintaining the highs."
Caleb Williams' accuracy issues continues to hold him back
Yes, most Bears fans can acknowledge that stat has to get better for Williams. He only completed 62% of his passes in his rookie season as well, leaving a lot to be desired in that department.
With that being said, not all of that is on him from last season. Bears wide receivers coach Antwaan Randle El said his position group had 43 passes last year that they dropped that they believed should have been caught. If the receivers caught all 43 of those passes, Williams would have had a 65.6% completion percentage, so let's not put that all on him.
Also, Williams should be given credit for protecting the football better than most quarterbacks in the NFL. He has only had 13 interceptions in the regular season in two seasons, as his 1.1% interception rate is pacing to be an NFL record. So, while he may be throwing the ball away more often, the turnovers are a key stat.
If Bears fans look at the head-to-head competition between Williams and Love, Chicago has the advantage over Green Bay. The Bears have won three of the five matchups in which Williams is the starting quarterback in the two seasons.

Everyone has to look past the accuracy concerns, as Williams, on a talent level, is well ahead of Love. Green Bay might have won this battle, but the Bears have been winning the war over the last two years.
