The Chicago Bears finally got right tackle Darnell Wright taken care of after a long summer of rumors and speculation about a new contract.
ESPN NFL reporter Jeremy Fowler and insider Ian Rapoport reported that the Bears and Wright have agreed on a four-year, $116 million contract extension, making it the largest contract by a right tackle in NFL history. $93 million of the contract is guaranteed. Chicago picked up his fifth-year option on his rookie deal during the offseason.
Last season, Wright allowed 19 pressures, three quarterback hits, and three sacks in 638 pass-blocking snaps. Pro Football Focus gave him an overall grade of 81.4, ranking 14th out of 89 tackles in the NFL. He was selected as a second-team All-Pro member for the first time in his career.
Bears finally lock up Darnell Wright on a long-term deal
This has been in the works for a long time and needed to happen during camp. There was no drama or issues, as both sides knew something was going to happen.
The Bears saw the potential in Wright from the moment he was their first-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. He has improved his game each season with the team.
It's a great moment for Bears general manager Ryan Poles, since this was the first first-round pick he made as the team's GM. Poles and the Bears had to wait on his development a bit, but it turned out to be a great selection.
Chicago has set the foundation for the future of the offensive line by keeping Wright with the football team long-term. He has held that right tackle position for a while now and will continue to do so.

This was the final thing the Bears needed to do before rolling into the 2026 season. Their next big contract extension will likely be for the guy Wright is protecting: Caleb Williams.
