The Chicago Bears don't even have everyone at training camp yet, and there are already some concerns with the roster.
Rookies and quarterbacks reported to training camp, with veterans not coming in until Tuesday. That didn't stop the franchise from announcing the first wave of roster moves.
Linebacker T.J. Edwards was placed on the Active/Non-Football Injury list. Edwards had a fractured fibula in the Bears' playoff win over the Green Bay Packers last season, but is expected to still be ready for the regular season.
Chicago also announced five players that are being placed on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list:
- Keyshaun Elliott, LB
- Kyler Gordon, CB
- Noah Sewell, LB
- Ozzy Trapilo, OT
- Shemar Turner, DT
Bears dealing with roster issues entering training camp
The hope is that none of these are too serious, but the first concern is with Edwards. He should be fully healed, so hopefully he won't be on the list for too long.
Gordon has been a headache for this Bears team since last year, when he suffered a soft-tissue injury. After playing in just three games in 2025, Gordon is still not healthy and missed all of OTAs, leaving head coach Ben Johnsonleaving confused about the situation.
Turner is another player who missed all of OTAs, as he is still recovering from his ACL injury last year. His status is unclear as to when he will be playing in 2026.
Elliott was just drafted by the Bears a few months ago, so seeing him already hurt and out is not a great sign. He was expected to compete at the linebacker position as a backup.
Sewell is another linebacker who is out after being in and out of the lineup last year with an injury. That would mark three linebackers who won't be ready for the start of training camp.
The injury bug seems to be hitting the Bears once again on defense. That will put a lot more pressure on defensive coordinator Dennis Allen to find hidden talent within the roster to replace these guys quickly.

This is only going to make training camp that much more competitive with multiple guys not practicing. Bears fans are going to have to monitor what happens and hope that all six guys will be back at some point in camp.
