A lot has been made about the defensive line for the Chicago Bears and needing it to improve without a clear plan of attack.
The Bears have signed three defensive linemen in free agency, including Kentavius Street, James Lynch, and Neville Gallimore. All three are considered rotational linemen, so the Bears have a lot more work they need to do in order to improve the line.
A new option just became available for the Bears as ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that New York Giants defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence has requested a trade from the team. Lawrence is a three-time Pro Bowler and two-time All-Pro with 30.5 sacks, 15 pass deflections, and five forced fumbles.
Could the Bears go after Dexter Lawrence in a trade?
Trading assets won't be a problem for the Bears, as they have four draft picks in the first three rounds to give to the Giants if the Giants want them. Bears general manager Ryan Poles also has players like D'Andre Swift and Cole Kmet, and he can offload them as part of the deal.
The problem is the financial part of the deal as the Bears only have $1 million in cap space. This means the Bears have a ton of work to do with making sure they can restructure contracts and cut and trade players as well to increase their cash flow.
Grady Jarrett and Gervon Dexter make up the defensive tackles at the moment for the Bears. Dexter has a bright future in the NFL after racking up six sacks last year, but Jarrett is starting to decline in his production.
Lawrence would instantly come in and improve the defense right away. He's everything the Bears don't have on defense right now with a pass rush and run stoppers.

The Bears should absolutely make a call for Lawrence, but Poles has a ton of work to do with his current roster before making any kind of trade.
