There are still some questions about the future of the Chicago Bears going into the 2026 season and beyond at a position that doesn't get talked about nearly as much, given the success in 2025.

Bears fans are wondering what the team's plans are for veteran running back D'Andre Swift, as they know that 2025 seventh-round pick Kyle Monangai is the future starter, but who will eventually replace Swift? Maybe an undrafted rookie could be the solution in former Kennesaw State running back Coleman Bennett, who has some impressive stats to show that he might be a potential successor of Swift to watch for.

"Chicago Bears UDFA running back Coleman Bennett broke 40 tackles on 133 rushes and broke 13 tackles on 18 receptions in 2025, according to PFF," LockedOnBears host Lorin Cox said. "His 53 broken tackles on 151 touches was the highest broken tackle rate of any RB in the 2026 NFL Draft."

Coleman Bennett might be a dominant running back for the Bears

The talks surrounding the future of the Bears' backfield have seemed to have taken some interesting turns over the last few weeks. Bears rookie third-round pick wide receiver Zavion Thomas has been answering questions about taking snaps as a running back even before minicamp begins.

Bennett might now have to be thrown into the conversation as well. Last year in his only year at Kennsaw State, he ran for 764 yards and four touchdowns, averaging 4.9 yards per carry.

While Bennett isn't quite the home run hitter in the backfield that someone like Thomas could be, he still possesses incredible power that proves he won't be tackled on first contact. That's a style similar to Monanagi's, which could make this backfield that much more dangerous.

There's a strong chance that Bennett might be a practice squad player in his rookie season, but once Swift leaves, Bennett could potentially see himself grow into a top two back on this roster.
