Dysfunction has followed the Chicago Bears for much of the past two weeks with yesterday being an opportunity for the organization to get things aligned with their football operation.

Speaking for the first time since the team announced that Matt Eberflus had been fired as the Bears' head coach, team president Kevin Warren issued a vote of confidence for general manager Ryan Poles. While Warren did say that Poles would lead the search for the Bears' new head coach, he wasn't as forthright in saying who would have the final say if there was a dissenting opinion with a candidate.

The faces may have been different on Monday with the newest iteration of the Bears' front office leadership talking about another head coaching change but the message was as jumbled as it was in the past with other coaching changes.

Chicago Bears News: The timing of the Bears deciding to fire Matt Eberflus

While there was universal agreement that the Bears should have fired Eberflus, the way the team went about making the decision has been criticized across the NFL. While Warren did apologize for the optics of Eberflus holding a press conference two hours before his firing was announced, his explanation speaks to how tone-deaf the Bears are as an organization.

"But during his press conference and even a couple of hours later, we had not reached a decision"

The Bears' loss to the Detroit Lions ended just before 3 PM CST on Thanksgiving. It's inexplicable that the powers that be in the Bears' organization did not begin the meeting that determined Eberflus' fate until 9 AM CST on Friday morning.

Chicago Bears News: Ryan Poles appeared to be rattled in talking about Eberflus' firing

Ryan Poles had the impression this past offseason of a general manager who felt his time was on the rise with he decisions that he made. That was far from the impression that Poles had on Monday while addressing reporters. Most notably, Poles appeared to be shaken to his core when talking about what went wrong with Shane Waldron.

The pause from Poles was very telling. That's the sign of a general manager who may have been rung out by the very man sitting next to him.

Chicago Bears News: Thomas Brown immediately proves he is not Matt Eberflus

Part of Matt Eberflus' unraveling as the Chicago Bears' head coach was the lack of accountability he had for his own coaching mistakes during the closing seconds of the team's losses this season. In his first press conference as Bears' head coach, Brown made sure that difference between he and his predecessor was noticed.

Whether or not Brown proves to be a viable candidate for the Bears' head coach opening won't be determined until the end of the season but Monday certainly was a step in the right direction.
