Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson thought he might be able to retain one of his top assistants, but that might be back in jeopardy.

Originally, Bears offensive coordinator Declan Doyle had interviewed with the Philadelphia Eagles for their offensive coordinator opening. Doyle withdrew his name from consideration as it appeared that he was content to stay in Chicago for the 2026 season.

It appears the Eagles are not the only team interested in Doyle's services. The Chicago Tribune's Brad Biggs reported that the Baltimore Ravens have requested to interview Doyle for their open offensive coordinator job after recently hiring former Los Angeles Chargers defensive coordinator Jesse Minter as the new head coach.

A second team interested in Declan Doyle as offensive coordinator

Doyle is starting to get some attention for his work with the Bears, as other NFL teams are recognizing his contributions. He helped coach Chicago to a top-five offense in the NFL in 2025 while helping quarterback Caleb Williams develop, as he is slowly becoming one of the best quarterbacks in the league.

While the lack of play-calling experience is a concern for some teams, Doyle has been impressing everyone, despite not yet being 30. ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported that Doyle interviewed well with the Eagles and expects him to be a head coach candidate in 2026.

The fact that Doyle has now learned from Sean Payton and Johnson during his young coaching career is a big advantage for him. There will be teams that want the "Ben Johnson system" in their offenses to replicate the Bears' first-year success.

Chicago is back in panic mode with Doyle, and while the Bears reserve the right to block the interview, they didn't do so with the Eagles, and most likely won't do so with the Ravens if Doyle wanted to interview. This could be Doyle's first chance to call plays before getting his shot at being a head coach.
