The Chicago Bears might be over a month away from training camp starting, but that doesn't mean the team isn't done making moves before then.

UFL reporter Michael Del Negro was told by a source that the Bears are signing linebacker Tony Fields II. Fields is coming off a run in the UFL with the Columbus Aviators, where he was second in the league in tackles with 77 and was named to the All-UFL team. The Bears had Fields in for a workout with the team last week.

Prior to the UFL, Fields played four seasons in the NFL from 2021 through 2024 with the Cleveland Browns. He racked up 88 tackles, two fumble recoveries, one tackle for loss, one forced fumble, one pass deflection, one interception, and one pick-six. Fields started 10 of the 45 games he appeared in with the Browns.

Bears are signing linebacker Tony Fields II, but what could it mean at the position?

Chicago is clearly making the move, as there have been some concerns about the linebacker position during the course of the Bears' OTAs. T.J. Edwards is working his way back from surgery in the offseason, but the team lost D'Marco Jackson in the final week of OTAs as he got hurt early last week.

This might indicate there could be some concerns about Jackson going into training camp, and the Bears need to add some insurance to cover themselves. It just adds to the never-ending trouble of injuries for the team as cornerback Kyler Gordon and defensive lineman Shemar Turner have also been missing time at OTAs due to injuries.

It appears things aren't getting better for the Bears, but there is still time for the team to get healed up before taking the practice field again in over a month. Fields at least has experience in the NFL, so that will help with the depth concerns at linebacker now.
