Chicago Bears should not be above hiring Mike McCarthy or Pete Carroll

Veteran coaches Mike McCarthy and Pete Carroll have been linked to the Chicago Bears' opening since the end of the season but fans have been reserved about the idea of either coach joining the organization.

The fanbase should look in the mirror before scoffing at these names. Both Carroll and McCarthy have won Super Bowls. Carroll led a team to the playoffs as recently as 2022 and won a playoff game in 2019. McCarthy was in the playoffs in 2023 and won a playoff game in 2022.

When is the last time the Bears made the playoffs or won a playoff game?

In their four most recent years, McCarthy is 43-25. He got to 7-10 this past season with Dak Prescott and Micah Parsons missing time. Carroll is 37-30 and went out at 9-8 during his last year as a coach.

The Bears are 21-47 over their last four years. It is hard to find the last four-year stretch when they won 37 games.

Are we really going to act like that success would not be met with open arms in Chicago? These coaches have had their issues in the playoffs and their best runs are tied to great quarterbacks.

The Bears would love to be a team that consistently gets to the playoffs at this point and Caleb Williams appears to be just what these coaches need.

Pete Carroll or Mike McCarthy would provide the Chicago Bears with consistency.

Even if these coaches are older, what they can do is provide stability. The Bears can go from a team that is a laughing stock and winning 21 games over four years to a team that averages 10 wins per year and makes the playoffs with a run here and there.

If McCarthy or Carroll run their course then or even retire at their age, the job becomes insanely appealing to a degree that fans have never thought of. Again, what is the downside of hiring these known winning coaches?

The Bears are smart to interview Peter Carroll and Mike McCarthy and both would be fine head coaches with high floors that this franchise has not had in a long time.
