Chicago Bears Week 8 takeaways emphasize long-term optimism amidst short-term pain

While the way this game ended is all people will be discussing this week, and will likely be all that is replayed for years to come, there were still another 59 minutes and 58 seconds that require evaluating.

Takeaway 4: Jayden Daniels vs Caleb Williams is going to be appointment television for a decade

This last takeaway is a feel-good conclusion that might provide some solace as Bears fans recover from the sting of this loss. There is no doubt that Jayden Daniels is a star. I would argue that there's no doubt that Caleb Williams is well on his way to stardom.

With these two quarterbacks playing as well as they are and rapidly developing in real-time, and the storied history of the Bears-Commanders rivalry, this is a game that is going to be in prime time for a long time going forward.

Even this year, the Commanders are well on their way to chasing down the NFC 2 seed. The Bears? Well, they're definitely one of a handful of teams in play for the NFC's 6 or 7 seed, and with that defense, no one can write them off just yet. If things keep trending the way they have been the past month, NFL fans could find themselves turning on their TV wildcard weekend to see a rematch between these two quarterbacks in January.

Caleb Williams and Jayden Daniels have already shown the potential to be as dynamic a QB rivalry as the NFC has seen in some time, and the early returns are promising. Here's to hoping that they stay healthy (and that the Bears get some real coaches into Halas Hall) so that Sunday's hail-mary is just the first chapter in a long storybook of exciting games between these two quarterbacks and franchises.
