Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson is a tone setter through one day of training camp, as he made it clear how he intends to run things in Chicago.

Johnson’s fiery style of coaching was on full display as he became upset with the offense during one of the drills for not lining up properly and would kick the first team off the field. That has been seen this offseason, as Johnson also got into the face of Caleb Williams at OTAs.

His new players have already taken notice, with Bears tight end Cole Kmet sharing with the media that this is something they are familiar with, given Johnson's brief tenure as head coach.

"That's on par for Ben," Kmet said via ESPN. "If you're not doing it right, he's gonna get you out, and he's not going to just see that stuff continue. It's just a lesson to us that you gotta be on the details. We gotta be on the details going into practice and we're going to get our reps in."

The culture continues to change in Chicago

Johnson’s work with his play calling has been on full display over the last three years as offensive coordinator with the Detroit Lions. His offense has been ranked in the top five in points and yards per game.

He’s taking over an offense that was the opposite, as the Bears were ranked last in total offense with 284 yards per game. Inconsistent play with the running game and poor pass blocking from the offensive line caused too many issues for the offense in Chicago.

There’s no doubt Johnson has his work cut out for him to get this offense back on track. It starts with getting Williams to exhibit better body language on the field and releasing the ball more quickly. The offensive line has improved significantly with the addition of three new starters on the interior.

Chicago’s talent at the skill positions is there, so there shouldn’t be any doubts there. It’s more about bringing everything together and having everyone work in sync. After Day 1 of training camp, that appears to still be a work in progress.
