Colin Cowherd just smacked the Bears with a backhanded compliment

Thanks... kind of?

After the Chicago Bears took down the Washington Commanders in dramatic fashion on Monday Night Football, everyone and their brother had an opinion. Everybody had their own hot take. Whether we give credit to the Bears doesn't seem to matter, because it's more about who can ruffle feathers than anything else.

And, as has been the case for a long time, Colin Cowherd is an expert in that realm. On his show Tuesday, following the game, he spoke on the Bears' win and, after saying some relatively nice things about Chicago, he ended his soliloquy with this:

"When your kid's gotten Fs and Ds, a B-minus feels pretty good."

Cowherd was referring to what Bears fans had been used to for so many years, whether it be the poor coaching, quarterback purgatory or anything else, really. And, while it might ring true with the fan base, this bit is simply getting old.

Colin Cowherd's backhanded compliment actually came after some shocking praise

Cowherd is all about his hot takes, and he's had his fair share about this franchise in recent memory.

But, for a guy who has historically been out on someone like Caleb Williams, Cowherd did say some nice things about the Bears and their team, overall, before giving his ridiculous grade illustration.

"Oh by the way, they can score first now ... Last year, they were 28th in scoring. This year, they're top 10," he mentioned.

He isn't wrong. The Bears are indeed the NFL's no. 10 scoring team, as it stands, putting up 25.2 points per game.

In addition to making remarks about scoring, head coach Ben Johnson and how this season has quietly flipped the narrative, Cowherd also said something staggering:

"I look at the Bears today and I think they can go toe to toe athletically, and toe to toe physically, with anybody in the league not named the Chiefs."

If this wasn't coming from Cowherd, I might actually believe him. Let's say it was someone like Peter Schrager or Ian Rapoport (or truly any other top NFL insider or analyst). In that case, this would be a remarkable quote. It would be something this Bears fan base never thought they'd hear about a current team.

Being able to go toe to toe with 30 other NFL teams, athletically and physically, is a dream scenario that I don't think we've quite arrived at just yet. If you ask Cowherd, he'll say stuff like this because it's just who he is.

Does he believe it? We might never really know.
